VdlP Sanabria Way Day 30

Olleros de Tera to Entrepensa We got a late start today 😩 but it is sunny with no signs of rain…yet!  We have met several locals on the trail, some were looking for wild asparagus 😮  They told us wild asparagus is the best, so now Dave and I look for it when we get bored…it’s become a goal to find a least one stalk before we finish this Camino 🤣  Spain grows white asparagus, they have to cover it out in the fields, so the sun doesn’t turn it green.  It’s a lot of work but I prefer the green.  Other locals look for spices like thyme, it’s also fun to speak to them and I think they enjoy the unexpected conversation.  In many towns we noticed that Spaniards place water bottles by the front door, so  I asked about it.  (See pic) The lady told me many locals believe it prevents dogs and cats from peeing on the doorstep 🤣 but she wasn’t all that convinced. 😬  We occasionally walk passed a big pile of rocks, so yesterday we found one of t...

VdlP Sanabria Way Day 29

Tabara to Olleros de Tera We had a nice day.  Walked through farmland, forest,  a gravel road and along a river.  The gravel road was also used by big dump trucks which hogged the road and made clouds of dust 🤷🏻‍♀️  but they always waved at us 🤣 We passed through 2 villages, but no food sold, but that was ok bc our hotel bar cook made us a sandwich for the road 🎉 We arrived at our Casa Rural early…the town was small with no bar, no restaurant and no grocery store 😩  Our Casa Rural is a house with a living room, kitchen, 2 bathrooms and 5 bedrooms.  We were the only ones here, but later 2 German pilgrims arrived.  The owner of our hotel had a small store in the kitchen and we just bought what we wanted then Dave made pasta.  It was great!  🍷 Tomorrow, there is a chance of rain ☔️, but we should be finished walking by then.

Granja de Moreruela to Tábara  Today was a challenging, but nice day.  We are on the Sanabria Way now, so we are continuing on the less traveled trail while other pilgrims went on to the Camino Frances.  Our day started off not as cold as usual, and it quickly warmed up…I guess we could say it was hot 🥵  We will need more water from now on.  We walked across a Roman bridge and afterwards we took the scenic route instead of the road path.  The scenic route was very challenging…steep climbs over large rocks and narrow paths.  It reminded us of hiking in Colorado!  I felt a little off balance (bc of the backpack 🎒) but I adjusted to it. We are glad we took that route bc it was just a beautiful hike.  Most of the day we walked through farmland and vineyards.  We came across a cafe in a little village and stopped for a cafe con leche…that was a nice surprise!  Arrived at our hotel to find the the electricity off!  Seems Spai...

VdlP Day 27

Montamarta to Granja de Moreruela Today, we completed the VdlP route, so tomorrow we continue on the Sanabres Route which will lead us to Santiago.  Supposedly, there are more places to stay and eat, but we are having problems booking a hotel in the first week on that route 😩🤷🏻‍♀️  It’ll work out 🙏🏼  the Camino will provide 🤔  This morning was very cold, but as the sun came out it slowly warmed up.  I’m just not used to all this sunshine!  Today’s walk was lovely…passed Roman ruins, 2 small towns with no food available and lots of fields of ???  Arrived around 1:30 and were able to get the Menu of the Dia, so we were happy, but today is Sunday, so nothing is open. 🤷🏻‍♀️  We still have a few snacks left for tomorrow’s walk.  The Casa Rural we  are staying at is interesting…our room has an upstairs loft with 2 more beds and a crib 🤔🤣  The owner said we could just pick a bed 🤣🤣  (see pic)
